Large hemp cotton weather double Azuma bag
The fabric is woven at a high density using a blended yarn of hemp and cotton for both the warp and weft, and subsequently piece-dyed in Kurashiki. Hemp has been recognized since ancient times as a resilient fiber, possessing a distinctiveness in its durability that allows for deep engagement over many years. By blending cotton, a certain softness is imparted to the characteristically crisp texture of the hemp, ensuring that a sense of comfort is felt from the very first moment of wear. Furthermore, the material is suited for use over an extended period while undergoing repeated repairs, allowing for a relationship that continues without the need to bid farewell to the garment.
This bag was inspired by the gestures and spirituality of "tying" and "wrapping," practices that have been naturally inherited within the history of Japan. It features a distinctive design in which two azuma-bukuro (traditional Japanese bags) are joined together. By turning one side inward, the layers overlap, allowing the interior and exterior to be utilized as separate compartments. Through the arrangement of the knots, the object is transformed to suit the individual, whether it be carried by hand, worn over the shoulder, or draped across the body, engendering a deep attachment through its versatile form.
