SN Charkha Kala Cotton Jacket (red iron oxide dye)
Khamir is an NGO that aims to promote traditional products and techniques from the Kutch region of India to the world while supporting local artisans. For more information on the kala cotton they produce, please click here . The raw cotton used in kala cotton is the original Helbacheum variety that has not been bred, and it is characterized by its very low environmental impact as it does not require pesticides and requires only a small amount of water. SN stands for single needle, and is the name of a portable spinning machine for home use invented by Gandhi. Click here to see how the yarn is spun. While the amvirka , which is more productive than the single needle, is currently mainstream, the yarn is spun little by little by the women of the local villages and woven by hand. The occasional random border is created by the change in the fine yarn lot of the handmade work, and is also one of the characteristics. By using the fabric ears as they are at the end of the collar, the body is also slightly biased, creating a pattern that fits the body well. The collar can be stood up or folded back, and the sleeves can be folded to the desired length. In addition, by sewing with very fine stitches, the reverse side is cut off with a tassel-like texture. The uneven texture created by hand spinning and weaving makes it comfortable against the skin, and the material is highly absorbent, so it doesn't stick to your skin even when you sweat, making it comfortable to wear even in the summer. It can also be worn reversibly, and there is a patch pocket on the front side.
*Because we use hand-woven fabric, there are individual differences in size and texture. Please consider the weaving habits, knots in the thread, and pilling as part of the expression. As it is weaker than machine-woven fabric, please avoid excessive strain. We are also available to answer any questions you may have about care.
*The pocket edges and back seams are cut off, so the edges of the fabric will fray slightly with each use. If this bothers you, simply cut them off with scissors. Undyed fabrics in particular tend to produce lint at first, but this will gradually subside.
*Natural pigments are fixed with natural rubber, so there is a natural unevenness. To avoid color transfer, avoid combining with light colors and be sure to wash it separately from other items the first 1-2 times. Since it is product dyed, the color and size of each item may vary slightly.
