SN Charkha Kala Cotton Jacket (Dark Plant Dyed)
Khamir is an NGO that aims to promote traditional products and techniques from the Kutch region of India to the world while supporting local artisans. For more information on the kala cotton they produce, please click here . The raw cotton used for kala cotton is the original Helbaceum variety that has not been bred, and it is characterized by its very low environmental impact as it does not require pesticides and requires only a small amount of water. SN stands for single needle, and is the name of a portable spinning machine for home use invented by Gandhi. Click here to see how the yarn is spun. While the amvirka , which is more productive than the single needle, is currently mainstream, the yarn is spun little by little by the women of the local villages and woven by hand. The occasional random borders are created by the fine changes in the yarn lots used in the handwork, and are also one of the characteristics of the fabric.
*Because we use hand-woven fabric, there are individual differences in size and texture. Please consider the weaving habits, knots in the thread, and pilling as part of the expression. As it is weaker than machine-woven fabric, please avoid excessive strain. We are also available to answer any questions you may have about care.
*Since the seam allowances on the edges of the pockets and the back are left cut, the edges of the fabric will fray slightly each time you use the garment. If this bothers you, please simply cut them with scissors each time.
*Enjoy the unevenness of plant dyes and how they change over time. To prevent color transfer, avoid using with light-colored items, wash with neutral detergent, and dry in the shade. Sweat and light can cause discoloration, so store away from sunlight and fluorescent lights and handle with care. (Walnut (dark), mugwort (dark), horse chestnut (dark))
*Dyed with natural indigo. The color will become lighter with repeated use. As there is a possibility of color transfer, avoid using with light-colored items at first, wash with a neutral detergent, and dry in the shade. Each item has a slightly different color and size. (Indigo (dark))
*Enjoy the unevenness of plant dyes and how they change over time. To prevent color transfer due to friction, avoid using with light-colored items, wash separately with a neutral detergent, and dry in the shade. Sweat and sunlight can cause discoloration, so please store and handle with care. (Persimmon tannin x red iron oxide, Persimmon tannin x ink, Indigo x turmeric x ink)
