Hemp dress (red iron dye)
The outer fabric uses 100% hemp thread for the warp and weft. Hemp is a strong fiber, but it gradually becomes more comfortable against the skin over time, and you can enjoy the change in texture from hemp to cotton-like. The cool feel that is characteristic of hemp persists even after repeated washing, making it comfortable to wear even in the middle of summer. Please refer to the article by Yoshida Shinichiro, Director of the Modern Linen Research Institute , for the history of hemp cloth, and to Boeken's article for details on the differences between hemp, ramie, and flax.
The lining and edges are made of khadi, which is hand-spun and hand-woven in West Bengal, India, with both the warp and weft threads being hand-spun. For more information on hand-spinning, please refer to the link to the outer fabric spinning section and the blog of our supplier, CALICO . The unevenness created by hand-spinning and hand-weaving relatively short-fiber desi cotton gives it a texture like a second skin, and is beautiful even when held up to light. The occasional random borders are created by the fine changes in yarn lots used in the handwork, and are also one of the characteristics of the fabric.
The design is a reversible dress with dolman sleeves. The sleeves have no seams, giving it a simple look, and the pattern is designed to follow the silhouette of the wearer, creating a beautiful line. The placket has a long string, so you can wear it however you like by adjusting the way you tie it. The side has a long slit, making it easy to move around in even though it is long. There is a pocket on the surface.
*Because we use hand-woven fabric, there are individual differences in size and texture. Please consider the weaving habits, knots in the thread, and pilling as part of the expression. As it is weaker than machine-woven fabric, please avoid excessive strain. We are also available to answer any questions you may have about care.
*There are knots and unevenness in the threads that are unique to natural materials. This is because we place importance on texture and use raw materials with uneven fiber lengths, so please consider this as part of the look. Please be careful not to pull on the knots in the threads too hard, as this may cause the threads to break and create holes in the fabric.
*Natural pigments are fixed with natural rubber, so there is a natural unevenness. To avoid color transfer, avoid combining with light colors and be sure to wash it separately from other items the first 1-2 times. Since it is product dyed, the color and size of each item may vary slightly.
