Flax plaid jacket
The jacket uses original fabric woven in Oshu. The base of the fabric is wool, which makes it comfortable to wear even in summer. Linen is also woven into the grid lines. The different shrinkage rates of linen and wool create a unique uneven surface, which makes the material less likely to stick to the skin. Normally, the warp threads are wound onto a single beam (like a large bobbin that winds the warp threads), but in order to use warp threads with different properties, the jacket is woven using a time-consuming double beam method. The design is stripped of the typical jacket-like feel of Western clothing, with no collar or buttons, making it easy to wear like a haori. The sleeves have a double-layered structure, giving it the look of a jacket, but for strength, the armholes are folded and sewn, and the area from the bottom of the sleeves to the sides and hem is sewn all at once like a shirt.
