Lightweight Sashiko-woven Haori (Dyed with Plant Pigments)
This is a double-layered original fabric with a unique structure._ The warp threads are made of organic cotton, while the weft threads on the surface and reverse are made of ramie and hemp respectively._ Thick silk threads are used to create a sashiko-like pattern through a special bonding process. The surface, where the organic cotton and ramie sheen blend, gives a light and airy impression. The reverse, which touches the skin, offers the cool feel of hemp and the soft touch of cotton._ Sashiko originally comes from Japanese handwork where old pieces of cloth were layered and sewn together for reinforcement and warmth._ This fabric doesn't imitate the irregularity of that handwork with machinery; instead, it utilizes the regular structure inherent in machine weaving to create a unique pattern that evokes a sense of rhythm within order.
While the silhouette has a relaxed fit around the body, the sleeves are designed to look neat from the armhole to the cuffs. The garment features a distinctive structure with a large, rectangular collar inspired by kimonos, which is attached to the body by sandwiching it between the front and back panels. The collar can be worn folded down or standing up. To highlight the sashiko pattern, the collar and pockets are arranged with a different weave than the body. The waist ties are set long, allowing for arrangements such as wrapping them around twice.
