Lightweight Sashiko Jacket
This is a double-layered original fabric with a unique structure. The warp threads are made of organic cotton, while the weft threads on the surface and reverse are made of ramie and hemp respectively. Thick silk threads are used to create a sashiko-like pattern through a special bonding process. The surface, where the organic cotton and ramie sheen blend, gives a light and airy impression. The reverse, which touches the skin, offers the cool feel of hemp and the soft touch of cotton. Sashiko originally comes from Japanese handwork where old pieces of cloth were layered and sewn together for reinforcement and warmth. This fabric doesn't imitate the irregularity of that handwork with machinery; instead, it utilizes the regular structure inherent in machine weaving to create a unique pattern that evokes a sense of rhythm within order.
This jacket features a slightly relaxed silhouette, making it easy to layer over other garments like coats. It's characterized by a flat pattern design using mostly straight lines for most of its components. Taking advantage of the fabric's characteristics, the body incorporates a yoke, and the direction of the sashiko stitching varies across different parts. For practicality as a tool-carrying garment, the pockets are positioned close to the side seams. The piping tape on the lining uses organic cotton, and the buttons are made from carved white horn.
