OC Non-Mulesed Wool Silk Noil Denim Jacket
An original denim fabric woven in Ibara, Okayama. The warp is a thick-count organic cotton, rope-dyed so that only the surface takes the indigo and the core of the yarn stays white. The weft is a two-ply yarn of non-mulesed wool together with silk noil — a spun yarn remade from short fibres such as waste cocoons that cannot be reeled into raw silk. Because much of the wool and silk sits on the reverse of the cloth, it feels warm and soft against the skin. By choosing non-mulesed raw materials, we reduce the burden on the sheep. (Mulesing is the practice of cutting away part of the skin and flesh around a sheep's hindquarters without anaesthetic, to prevent parasites from lodging in the folds of the skin.)
A coverall-style jacket with a generous silhouette throughout, sized to slip easily over a thick knit or a jacket, so it works whatever you wear underneath. The pattern is drawn for freedom of movement around the shoulders and set on a dropped shoulder, so it looks clean worn oversized rather than to size. The two-layer pocket separates into a buttoned vertical pocket and a diagonal-access hand-warmer pocket, giving storage for small items and warmth as independent functions. The buttons are low-impact nut buttons.
