Narsi Silk Shawl
Nasi is the stem-like part of a silkworm produced by the Indian wild silkworm, the Tasar silkworm, as it hangs from a tree. This original fabric is woven in a plain weave using yarn spun from nashi at Japan's only silk spinning factory in Shiga, with unrefined, fine-count raw silk as the warp. The off-white color is undyed. While not used here, Maki Textile Studio's article provides detailed information on hand-spun nashi yarn in India, so please take a look.
Both the weft thread and the warp thread are made of nashi silk, which is stronger than regular glossy silk thread, and the fabric has a stiff, crisp feel that changes to a soft, almost denim-like texture with repeated daily wear.Nashi yarn is as strong as wool, so it has the resilience and does not wear out even with repeated use.
