Khadi shirt (Takarajima Dyeing)
SH-03TS Khadi Shirt (Takarajima Senko) This shirt uses Khadi made in West Bengal, India, where both the warp and weft are hand-spun and hand-woven. For more information on hand-spinning, please refer to the link to the outer fabric spinning section and the blog of our supplier, CALICO . The unevenness created by hand-spinning and hand-weaving relatively short-fiber Desi Cotton gives the shirt a texture like a second skin, and is beautiful even when light is shined through it. The occasional random borders are created by the fine changes in the yarn lots used in the handwork, and are also one of the shirt's characteristics.
The shirt is a proposal for a Western garment that constitutes modern ethnic clothing. While following the rules of Western clothing, the design has been stripped away as much as possible, and the pattern is based on functionality. Specifically, the sleeve cap is tucked in and the bottom of the sleeve is set higher to allow for movement around the arms, and the yoke on the back is tucked instead of gathered, allowing for movement in the back. In addition, instead of the adhesive interlining used in regular shirts, the outer fabric is loosely woven, and all sewing threads are cotton thread No. 30, giving it a soft finish, making it comfortable to wear even against bare skin. The placket uses the fabric's selvedge to convey the texture of hand weaving, and the buttons are all hand-sewn using thick white mother-of-pearl. The product dyeing by Takarajima Dyeing is inspired by the traditional Chinese dyeing technique of dyeing with a bamboo brush, and each piece is hand-dyed with ink using a brush.
*Because we use hand-woven fabric, there are individual differences in size and texture. Please consider the weaving habits, knots in the thread, and pilling as part of the expression. As it is weaker than machine-woven fabric, please avoid excessive strain. We are also available to answer any questions you may have about care.
*Dyed with dyes extracted from plants and insects, there is a natural unevenness. As there is a possibility of color transfer, please refrain from using it with light-colored items at first, wash with a neutral detergent, and dry in the shade. Since it is product dyed, the color and size of each item may vary slightly.
