Non-Mulesed Wool OC Triple-Weave Shirt
An original triple-cloth fabric: organic cotton in the warp and non-mulesed wool in the weft, woven as a three-layer construction, sewn in the usual way, and then finished so the binding threads dissolve in water and the cloth separates into three layers. Normally you see only the outer and inner faces; the middle layer appears for the first time when one of them wears through. The idea grew out of the patches we so often use in mending — a fabric made on the premise of repair. With wool in the weft and a cushion of air held between the layers, it is also thoroughly warm. By choosing non-mulesed raw materials, we reduce the burden on the sheep. (Mulesing is the practice of cutting away part of the skin and flesh around a sheep's hindquarters without anaesthetic, to prevent parasites from lodging in the folds of the skin.)
A shirt with a basic silhouette and a little ease, it can be worn open as a haori and combined in many ways across a wide range of seasons apart from summer. The sleeve cap is eased in and the underarm set high to allow room to move at the arms, while the back yoke is shaped with ease rather than tucks or gathers to give room across the back.
