This shirt uses Khadi made in West Bengal, India, where both the warp and weft are hand-spun and hand-woven. The unevenness created by hand-spinning and hand-weaving relatively short-fibre Desi Cotton gives the shirt a texture like a second skin, and is beautiful even when light is shined through it. The occasional random borders are created by the fine changes in the yarn lots used in the handwork, and are also one of the shirt's characteristics. The khadi fabric is hand-woven, and the pattern is cut using the full width from selvedge to selvedge, then folded and sewn like origami, leaving almost no fabric waste. The construction is very flat, and like a kimono, it naturally fits many different body types. The fabric also becomes softer as it is worn, and since cotton thread is used for the sewing thread as well, it is comfortable to wear even against bare skin. The selvedge of the fabric is used at the placket and hem to convey the texture of hand-weaving, and thick white mother-of-pearl buttons are hand-sewn in place. The garment-dyeing by Takarajima Senko is inspired by a traditional Chinese technique using a bamboo brush (sasara); each piece is dyed by hand with sumi ink using a scrubbing brush. This is a standard item that originated as a special order from walls&bridges for the 18SS season. This is also a limited colour exclusive to walls&bridges.
