Khadi Patchwork Cloth from Offcuts (Small)
We use khadi hand-spun and handwoven in West Bengal, India, for both warp and weft. For the hand-spinning, please see the blog of our supplier CALICO, linked from the fabric spinning credit. The unevenness that arises from hand-spinning and hand-weaving the relatively short-fibred desi cotton gives it a texture like a second skin, beautiful even when held up to the light. The borders that appear randomly from time to time are created by fine, handmade variations in the yarn lots, and are another of its characteristics.
An item made by patchworking the offcuts from the cutting above. A square of about 115 cm × 115 cm, it is a size that can be used as a stole, a shoulder wrap or a lap blanket.
*There are knots and unevenness in the threads that are unique to natural materials. This is because we place importance on texture and use raw materials with uneven fibre lengths, so please consider this as part of the look. Please be careful not to pull on the knots in the threads too hard, as this may cause the threads to break and create holes in the fabric.
*Because handwoven khadi is used, there are individual differences in size and texture. Please consider weaving irregularities, thread knots, and any pilling that occurs as part of its character. As it is weaker than machine-woven fabric, please avoid putting excessive strain on it.
*Because it is patchworked from cutting offcuts, the combination of colours and patterns differs from piece to piece.
*Enjoy the unevenness of the plant dye and the changes that occur over time. To prevent colour transfer due to friction, avoid using with light-coloured items, wash separately with a neutral detergent, and dry in the shade.
